Post towers

Post towers (Sarthian: tour de poste, Xafian: postturm) are towers that house motus mages that deal with transporting people and items across the world. Typically larger cities will have multiple towers scattered around, medium sized cities and towns will have one or two, while smaller towns often have a building that is not a tower (but still colloquially referred to as a post tower). Cities serve as hubs for the surrounding settlements when it comes to transporting packages and getting to and from places faster. Each post tower's motus mages has the capacity to transport things and people to towers in the nearby vicinity. For example, a tower in one province of the Pheagon Empire can transport a letter to other surrounding provinces. Getting to more distant locations is known as tower hopping.

Many countries maintain post tower networks even in times of war in order to keep diplomatic channels open.

Any person can send a package from a post tower to any other post tower, provided they pay the requisite fee, which is determined by the size of the package being sent and the distance to the destination. The package receives a official stamp that has a unique magical mark that contains information about the sender, recipient, origin and destination, as well as the time of sending and, once it arrives, information about the time of arrival.

The most common type of package sent is a letter while the second most common are coins.

Protection

Most towers (especially in the border provinces) have several layers of protective runes and barriers that shield the tower from any hostile actions. Several motus mages are tasked with monitoring and protecting a group of towers in each province, blocking packages sent by rogue mages, enemies of the Empire, those without official stamps etc.
