Empire - Civil War (Base info)
▶Contents
The Empire is shattered - torn by four siblings that crave its might for their own. At a time of strife and instability, different factions have emerged, each seeking to carve out a piece for themselves.
To the west, the rightful Sovereign Elys Pheagon prepares to march on the rest of the Empire to dispatch the rebellion.
To the east, Anona Pheagon, has convinced provinces to rally around her banner through promise of a more just and equitable land, through any means necessary, no matter the obstacles.
To the south, Marcel Pheagon brings those who are against the monarchy, who seek equality and rule of the people themselves instead of one person embodying their will.
To the north, Theros Pheagon has rallied the "outcast" provinces that worship demons, surrounding himself with the occult. Rumors of evil magic and support of devils from beyond the material plane swell and spread.
Main factions
Elys Pheagon, the Bloody (Legitimists)
The rightful ruler, Elys Pheagon, a competent and cruel man, seeks to restore order to all parts of the realm. Promising peace and justice to those that submit, retribution to those that refuse. To the core of the Empire he is a beacon of stability in turbulent times. A known devil is better than the unknown they say. That just might be true.
He rules with an iron fist and rarely tolerates doubt regarding his choices. He is a devout worshipper of the Empyrean (main pantheon), Lacuno in particular.
- Objective: Defeat other factions; bring order to the Empire
- Approves: Bold action, ambition, ruthlessness
- Disapproves: Mercy, humility, diplomacy
Anona I, the Pale (Pragmatists)
Anona the Pale currently has no legitimate claim to the throne but is far and wide considered a more capable governor than her elder brother. She is calculating, pragmatic and seeks to make the most practical choices for the citizens of the Empire.
Parts of the Empire reject her due to her relationship with an elvish woman and the broad support she receives from the elves that live within the Empire. Her enemies denounce her as a traitor and servant of the Diarchy. Her goal is to unify the Empire once more, through force if necessary.
- Objective: Unite the peoples of the Empire and bring peace
- Approves: Getting things done, initiative, ends justify the means
- Disapproves: Religious worship, Insubordination, Failing missions
Marcel, the Reformer (Unionists)
Marcel Pheagon is the youngest sibling and the most radical. He seeks to abolish the position of Sovereign altogether, leaving the Imperial Council as the sole executive body, chosen by the Senate. His ideas have taken root amongst scholars, merchants and craftsmen alike, with even some of the army and navy's officers questioning their side in the war.
Critics say he is an idealist, others a fool and traitor to the Empire. His rejection of the Imperial pantheon has earned him comparisons to the atheistic arch-enemies of the Empire, the Sarthians.
- Objective: Dissolve the monarchy
- Praise: Protecting common folk, diplomacy, justice
- Despise: Ambition, Greed, Oppression
Theros, the Maleficar (Truthseers)
Theros Pheagon, the outcast mage son of the late Emperor, proclaims that the gods have failed, the Empire is crumbling, and the only path forward lies through gaining power, both mortal and divine, and instigating a new order where mortals are the sole rulers of the world. Rumors of alliances and pacts with disgruntled devils and angels swell and spread. He accepts any and all who share his vision, enticing them with promises of power, and offering mercy to those who accept his rule.
To his enemies he is nothing more than a charlatan at best and a malicious, power hungry mage at worst, the likes of which have brought the Empire to the brink of ruin before. Nevertheless, the "outcast" northern provinces rally to his banner.
